Assistive Technology & Animals
Assistive Technology (AT) refers to any device, tool, system, equipment, or assistance animal which helps a person with a disability or health condition perform important tasks more independently and safely. Equipment and devices help people do the things they can not ordinarily do because of their disability.
Assistive Technology It can be low-tech (like grab rails, shower chairs, non-slip matting, kitchen trolleys, built up cutlery, over bed tables, chair raisers, magnifiers, pencil grips, or visual schedules) or high-tech (like powered wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or home automation systems).
Bespoke OT Occupational Therapists assess for need, and prescribe Assistive Technology to improve independence, mobility, communication, daily living skills, community access, and inclusion in work, education, and recreation.
Bespoke OT clinicians support clients through the process of applying for an assistance animal under their NDIS plan. Our experienced Occupational Therapists complete functional assessments, provide detailed reports that outline the therapeutic need, and collaborate with care teams to demonstrate how an assistance animal will enhance daily living, independence, and emotional well-being. We ensure the application meets NDIS requirements and is tailored to the person’s unique goals and challenges.
All Assistive Technology and Assistance Animal applications are carefully written with the person’s goals, environment, and support needs in mind. The ultimate goal is to support more independence, safety, and confidence; and we work with people to explore options available to live their best lives and break down barriers.
