Functional Capacity Assessments & NDIS Access Requests

Our comprehensive Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) provide in-depth insights into an individual’s support needs, helping them access targeted, reasonable, and necessary NDIS funding through their NDIS plan.

Bespoke OT looks beyond diagnosis to understand the functional impairments arising from disabilities. Conducted in the home or local community, FCAs are designed to be affirming, comfortable, and flexible. We welcome individuals to include family, carers, friends, support workers, support coordinators, or whoever feels right, for their comfort and support.

An experienced Occupational Therapist explores how a person’s disability impacts their daily functioning across key life areas—such as personal care, mobility, communication, household tasks, learning, social interactions, self-management, and community participation.  The OT observes real-life functional tasks (i.e. cooking, budgeting), gathers insights through task analysis, conducts interviews, gathers collateral information, and implements evidence-based assessments. This ensures FCA reports accurately reflect NDIS care needs, including hour-by-hour support requirements where relevant. This information informs NDIS funded supports and assists support coordinators and local area coordinators to advocate for participants in NDIS planning meetings and plan reassessments.

Functional Capacity Assessments can include:

  • Home & Living Applications – Supporting Independent Living (SIL), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and home modifications.

  • Equipment & Assistive Technology – Identifying, prescribing, and applying for tools and equipment such as mobility scooters, wheelchairs, shower chairs, electric beds, to enhance daily living.

  • Therapy & Support Recommendations – Tailored interventions aligned with functional goals.
